Parker the Prepster - A Boston Based Lifestyle Blog by Sarah Parker Parker the Prepster A Boston Based Lifestyle Blog by Sarah Parker Skip to content About Me Contact Me Weight Loss: Week 4 by parkertheprepster // August 1, 2016 // 1 Comment Hello friends. This post was delayed due to a wonderful trip to Newport, RI. It was a last minute surprise from Cam and I didn’t have a chance to weigh-in, but I wanted to discuss my attempts at portion control during our mini vacation. I’m Jennifer Gray in Dirty Dancing when her father says “Baby wants to send her leftover pot roast to Southeast Asia” – I HATE wasting food, it seriously makes me cringe. While I think this is primarily a good trait, it’s probably led to a few extra pounds over the years. Accepting that I may waste some food was the first step to enjoying our vacation, but not killing my weight loss progress thus far. I knew we would be drinking and usually eat carbs before I start drinking heavily. I ended up ordering a lunch size portion of pasta and only ate half of it… half the calories with a side of guilt. ?? The second decision I made towards portion control was sharing a steak with Cameron at dinner… rather than ordering our own separate entrees, we shared one and again, cut our calories in half. Lastly, while I used to to end “party nights” with water and heavy carbs, Cam and I ended Saturday night sharing a crab cake appetizer from The Red Parrot: a single crab cake for each of us. I had a mix of wine and vodka throughout the day, but never felt uncomfortably full or deprived. While I was by no means dieting this past weekend, I’m happy with the little choices I made. I’m jumping back on my diet tomorrow and excited to weigh-in this Saturday. xoxo! This entry was posted in Weight Loss. Weight Loss: Week 3 by parkertheprepster // July 23, 2016 // 3 Comments Happy Saturday! I was chatting with Cam on Tuesday evening, explaining to him that I had to weigh-in and write my “weight loss blog post” on Wednesday morning. He asked why I chose Wednesday… uh, Weight Loss Wednesday? I quickly realized that while the name sounded cute, weighing in on Wednesday may not give an accurate representation of a “week”… so I’ve moved these posts to Saturday. Hope you enjoy the slower pace and musings with your morning cup of caffeine. The picture above is from this series of photos, but never made it to Instagram or the blog. I remember over analyzing it, looking at my back and my arms and not being happy with myself. I had paid money for this photo, enjoyed shooting with the amazingly talented Catherine Threlkeld, and when it came time to sharing it… my confidence and fear of judgement prevented me from hitting “share” or “publish”. I got to thinking… how many aspects of life have my weight insecurities affected? The truth is a lot. At the end of the day, this is my primary motive. I want my confidence back… and slowly, I’m getting it. As a matter of fact, Cam and I are going to the pool today. That’s right: one piece, no cover-up, in a public setting – boom. So lets dive right in to Week 3’s highlights: Week 3 Favorite Core Exercise: 10 Core-Strengthening Kettlebell Moves – #1 and #4 are classic kettlebell moves and my favorites. Week 3 Favorite Meal: Snow Crab Legs and Ghee (clarified butter) – a classic Whole 30 meal for us. You can have 1/2 a pound of crab and it’s only 95 calories (not including the ghee). I try to only dip occasionally, even if it is clarified butter. This snapchat picture is from a while back since beer was definitely not served on Monday when we had this meal, although we had wine with our chicken on Thursday. ?? Alcohol has never been one of my weaknesses, so it’s pretty easy for me to give it up. Unlike sweets, that’s hard. Week 3 Recipe I Want to Try: Vanilla Bean Matcha Popsicles Week 3 Athleisure Items I purchased at Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale: I purchased and kept these sneakers and this tank. I purchased and returned this sports bra and these leggings – both great pieces, I just found the sports bra wasn’t supportive enough for my 34DD’s and the ombre details on the leggings were less than attractive on my thighs. Week 3 Weight Loss: 0.5 (I can feel my weight loss starting to plateau, so I’m kicking up my activity levels this upcoming week!) Total Weight Loss: 3.5 pounds This entry was posted in Fitness, Weight Loss. Insta and Inspo by parkertheprepster // July 22, 2016 // 2 Comments I’ve been a bit MIA from the blog this week and for that I apologize. Between getting to work early so I can work out in the afternoon and spending more time with Cam, I’ve noticed a definite positive change in my health and my routine. My day job as a technical recruiter has me on my butt for most of the day and I’ve tried to stay off of it in the evenings aka less time at my computer writing blog posts and editing pictures… but I haven’t forgotten about my weekly Weight Loss post (stay tuned for that tomorrow). I also haven’t done an Instagram Round-Up since Instagram was all “squares”, so on that note… lets get started: Today’s outfit is a Free People dress (similar), Chloe Crossbody, and Stubbs and Wooton Loafers (similar). Sometimes weight loss makes me crabby (all puns intended given there is a crab in this picture), so Cam is awesome and buys me flowers. Shop It: similar crab, similar gold vase I saved up quite a bit for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, but sadly wasn’t very impressed (I’ll share the few things I did purchase in additional posts). Instead I purchased my dream bag. Social Media has also given me some great inspiration lately. Weight Loss: Week 2 by parkertheprepster // July 13, 2016 // 4 Comments Happy Weight Loss Wednesday friends! First of all, I just wanted to say thank you for the overwhelming response from last week’s post. I received so many motivational emails, texts, calls, and comments – you guys are the best! Second, I wanted to clarify that the picture from last week was an older picture, more of an aspiration shot if you will… I know some people were concerned that I wanted to lose 40 pounds from that photo, but that would make me 90 pounds, so no thanks! I wanted to share a more accurate photo (shown above) and share this week’s favorites. So lets get started! Week 2 Favorite Warm-Up: “Medium Resistance Snapchat Ride” – I’m not sure about you guys, but the more people I add on Snapchat, the longer my “feed” is and at times it can be between 15 minutes and 30 minutes long. I’ve found that rather than waste time checking it during the day, I set aside my “Snapchat time” for my warm-up in the evening. I set my resistance to between 9 and 12 on the stationary bike and ride until my Snapchat feed finishes. I usually burn between 125 and 150 calories. I then proceed to the circuit that I shared last week, followed by 3o minutes on the treadmill. Week 2 Favorite Snack: Watermelon Mint & Cucumber Salad – I found this needle in a haystack at Warped Tour (there were slim pickings for healthy options ) and fell in love with the refreshing flavor combination. Week 2 Recipe I Want to Try: Baked Eggs in Prosciutto-Hash Brown Cups – I make a similar breakfast to this every morning (1 Over Easy Egg with a McCrum Organic Potato Cake = 170 calories), but this would be a fun recipe to try on the weekends and reheat during the work week! Week 2 Athleisure Wish List Item: Adidas Logo Leggings (similar to the ones shown above) Week 2 Weight Loss: 1 pound Total Weight Loss: 3 pounds This entry was posted in Fitness, Weight Loss. Grey Theory Maxi Dress by parkertheprepster // July 12, 2016 // 2 Comments Location: Hingham, MA Ray Ban Aviators, Forever 21 Denim Jacket (similar here), Old Navy Bag (designer version here) This past weekend I totally scored at Plato’s Closet in Dedham, MA. I think the best part of this treasure hunting excursion was the fact that my purchases were actually on my wish list. Sometimes you justify great deals just because of the savings, but I’ve been lusting over curve hugging maxi dresses for a while now and wanted to find the “right one”. This grey Theory maxi dress was only $18 and hugs my curves perfectly. The cotton is soft yet durable and I know it will hold up for years to come. A similar version retails for $200, but I may have to give in on the “dark moss” version here – this dress is just too good. …and as I go on and on about this fabulous dress, I’m not even sharing my best purchase with you. Stay tuned people. Stay tuned. xoxo! This entry was posted in Outfit of the Day, Shopping Picks, Style. ? Older posts Sarah Parker Cotham Follow me!
